Every April 16th, the country gathers to honor and recognize one of the most famous breakfast dishes, the Eggs Benedict. Since its creation in New York City, it quickly became a popular staple on brunch menus all over the world. Although this national holiday is a little more underrated than most, like Fourth of July or Thanksgiving, National Eggs Benedict Day is unique and special, with deep roots tied to American culture.

Back in September, Anna's House team members were given the incredible opportunity to visit our local partner, Michigan Bread. The family-owned bakery is located in Taylor, Michigan where they thrive in creating high quality breads without the use of additives. We were honored to hear heartwarming stories from the Assimacopoulos family about the growth of their business, as well as witness their labor intensive techniques and processes. We are very excited to share their story and share their delicious bread with our guests!

Grab your flannel! Fall is here!

Don't get us wrong, summer in Michigan is stunning. Road trips up north, swimming in our wonderful Great Lakes & enjoying the sunshine with loved ones. But as soon as those few leaves start to crisp & fall, we enthusiastically run to our cozy sweaters! Even in late August, we're already dreaming of our fuzzy socks, bonfires & of course, FOOD!

Autumn is the ruler of comfort food & comfort food is, dare we say, the most important food group. Savory, warm, filling & familiar. For this year's Fall Features, we at Anna's House took classic comfort foods & added new twists, featuring wonderful local Michigan products.

Pumpkin Spice Pancakes

We revamped this autumnal breakfast classic to feature a wide array of fall flavors. A top the deliciously golden Pumpkin Spice Pancakes is our new house made, gluten free graham cracker cream cheese frosting. The gluten free graham crackers are made by Celiac-owned Kind Crumbs in Grand Rapids. We are very proud to partner with them for dietary friendly sweet treats for the past several years.

This dish can be made gluten free. Please notify your server & we will present you with our gluten free Pumpkin Spice Pancakes!

Served on the side of our Pumpkin Spice Pancakes is our house made cinnamon-ginger syrup. Our ginger is freshly hand cut & incorporated into our real Michigan maple syrup for an authentically rich flavor.

A favorite amongst Anna's House team members & guests. Believe it or not, our Pumpkin Whoopie Pies are gluten free, dairy free & vegan (you will not believe it after you take your first bite)! They are another wonderful local product from our friends at Kind Crumbs. A seasonal treat for those who have dietary needs & a sweet tooth!

Kimchi Reuben Burger

You are going to be surprised by how many scrumptious, local ingredients we fit between this pretzel bun! This burger was inspired & created by two of our very own team members, Ben & Jackson in Kalamazoo! They had been experimenting with creative ideas & twists on our current menu items. Using Ben’s recipe for this incredible sauce & Jackson’s idea to combine the corned beef with Kimchi & Monterey Jack cheese, the two created a unique twist on a classic reuben. The sandwich was so delicious, our Menu Developer, Danea, asked Ben to PLEASE share his recipe, so we could feature the sauce & asked Jackson for permission to use the ingredient combo. Their creative ideas & team work inspired the Kimchi Reuben Burger!

Fair warning: Ben's Chili Sauce packs some heat!

This burger features double decker Michigan Craft Beef from Moraine Park Farms in Zeeland & melted with Monterey Jack cheese. Our house made, slow roasted corned beef is pressed between the patties for even more goodness, making it a total of 11 ounces of meat! Then it is topped with The Brinery Kimchi from Ann Arbor & of course, Ben's Chili Sauce. Trust us, this burger is worth all of the hard work we & all of our local partners put into it!

Cinnamon Graham Cracker Latte

This specialty coffee is sure to bring you all kinds of cozy vibes. Cinnamon & vanilla latte topped with our house made cinnamon whipped cream & gluten free graham cracker crumbs from Kind Crumbs. All of our specialty coffees are locally roasted by Rowster Coffee in Grand Rapids.

This latte is naturally gluten free & can be made vegan if ordered with soy or almond milk & no whipped cream. Please notify your server of your dietary needs.

Chicken Tinga Tostadas

Just like how we wear more layers in the fall, this dish layers up with flavors!

We hand cut our fresh tomatoes & onions & add them with shredded chicken in chipotle in adobo sauce. Then we let it sit, simmer & make everyone's mouths water with the savory smell!

We whip up our zesty house made cilantro-lime vinaigrette which is all made from scratch. Although making our dressings & sauces by hand is time consuming, we strive to make high quality, fresh products that we are proud to share with you!

When all of our sauces are perfectly blended & ready for action, we add our marinated shredded chicken on top of two house made corn tostadas. We scramble up some cage free eggs from Vande Bunte Farm in Martin, Michigan. All of this is topped with fresh avocado, black beans, diced radish & the cilantro-lime vinaigrette, making a warming, colorful mountain of freshness. Our Chicken Tinga Tostadas are light, but filling & are certified brunch-approved! Served with your side of choice.

Turmeric Ginger Kombucha

Our effervescent tea changed from its summer flavor into something more seasonal. This Turmeric Ginger flavor from Neu Kombucha in Farmington is filled with healthy probiotics & zingy flavors!

Turmeric & ginger are wonderful spices that aid digestion with their anti-inflammatory & antioxidant properties. For those who don't know, Kombucha is a delicious fermented tea that bubbles with healthy, natural probiotics that help improve digestion. Add all three together & you have a drink that will make your body & taste buds happy & healthy!

Congratulations to Kim who was voted Team Member of the Month by her Beltline team in August! From coming in on her days off, to selling the second most Cystic Fibrosis Fundraiser pins in the entire company, Kim is always willing to go the extra mile! She's praised for her big heart, big smile & contagious laugh. Guests sometimes even confuse her as Anna from time to time! Kim explained that she loves working at Anna's House because of the team mentality. "It's not like any other place I've ever worked. It's really nice knowing everyone has your back." When Kim isn't serving, she says she dabbles in photography & loves reading. "I will read anything & everything. If you give me anything with words, I will read it!" Thank you for your sincere hard work & kind heart, Kim!

We take extra precaution and do whatever is necessary to fit your dietary needs and lifestyles. One of the biggest up and coming trends is veganism. For those who don't know, veganism is a lifestyle that omits products made from animals which includes milk, eggs and cheese. There are different versions of veganism and Anna's House is willing to cater to each specific diet.

Below are some of our most popular dishes that can be made vegan with a few modifications as well as some dishes that are naturally vegan. Be sure to always notify your server of your dietary needs!

Our Sweet Potato Brussels Sprouts Hash has roasted sweet potatoes, brussels sprouts, onion and dried cherries, topped with balsamic reduction sauce. Normally it is served with two eggs, so be sure to request no eggs in order to make this dish vegan.

The Anna's Skillet is a very popular dish that can also be made vegan with a few changes. Request that your server remove eggs, cheese, ham and sour cream. You'll be given a deliciously warm skillet served with green pepper, onion, mushroom, potato, tomato and green onions. It is a perfectly hearty meal to keep you sustained for the rest of the day.

Our Tempeh Power Bowl is seriously delicious. Featuring house made vegan tempeh bacon atop brown rice and steamed kale. Topped with fresh avocado, sweet dried cherries, and a tangy pomegranate drizzle. This dish is also served with two eggs, but can be made vegan if they are removed. You can almost feel the energy radiating from you once you finish eating this healthy power dish!

Another fantastic vegan-friendly dish is our notorious Hippie Hash. Slow roasted root vegetables, brown rice, fresh garlic, fresh ginger and alfalfa sprouts. When ordering, be sure to request that the kitchen not add cheese, sour cream or eggs. This dish is one of our most famous, as well as the most photogenic dish with all of its rich colors and textures! Our Tempeh Burger is 100% vegan naturally! This seasoned tempeh burger is served on a vegan bun with avocado, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles and BBQ sauce. Our Sweet Potato Fries are also vegan-friendly (and they pair especially well with this dish). The fries are served, however, with a side of brown sugar butter which is not vegan.

Woah, hang on a second. You might be thinking 'Tempeh? What is Tempeh?!' Tempeh is a delicious meat alternative made out of soy beans that originated in Indonesia. The soy beans are naturally cultured and fermented to create a binding solution that holds its 'cake-like' form! By offering BBQ sauce on the side, it also adds a flavor similar to that of meat!

Healthy Baked Oatmeal is one of the most popular and unique dishes offered on our breakfast menu. Baked breakfast oats, dried cherries, raisins, vanilla and a dash of cinnamon. This entree is topped with vanilla soy milk, but we also offer almond milk. Hint: This dish is massive and resembles a giant slice of cake!

Several of our salads can also be made vegan with modifications. Our vegan dressing options include Greek, Raspberry Vinaigrette and Pomegranate Blueberry Vinaigrette.

We also have several tasty "on the side" options that can accompany any vegan meal!

Our more classic side options include Potatoes, Sweet Potato Fries and Fries which are all naturally vegan. We also offer oatmeal as another side option.

Who could go wrong with a Cup of Fresh Fruit? Layered with cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple, strawberries and blueberries, it makes a perfect pair for any dish!

Some of our specialty drinks can also be made vegan! Be sure they are ordered with vanilla soy milk or unsweetened almond milk and no whipped cream. You can enjoy a vegan Latte, Cappuccino, Chai Latte or Gourmet Hot Chocolate!

Our Fresh Fruit Smoothies are also vegan, featuring your choice of blueberry, strawberry and banana!

Congratulations to Casey who was Plainfield's July Team Member of the Month! Casey has only been a part of Anna's House for a few months, showing his strengths in and around the kitchen. "He grabs on to his job with great enthusiasm," Karen, Plainfield's General Manager praised. "He's a little go-getter!" Casey explained that he enjoys the fast-paced atmosphere of Plainfield. Considering how small our first location is, he says that he moves around quite a lot between washing dishes and prepping food. His coworkers and management praise his punctuality, politeness, and his eagerness to learn new things. "He never grumbles when asked to do anything," Karen admired when asked what makes Casey such an outstanding team member.
