Grab your flannel! Fall is here!

Don't get us wrong, summer in Michigan is stunning. Road trips up north, swimming in our wonderful Great Lakes & enjoying the sunshine with loved ones. But as soon as those few leaves start to crisp & fall, we enthusiastically run to our cozy sweaters! Even in late August, we're already dreaming of our fuzzy socks, bonfires & of course, FOOD!

Autumn is the ruler of comfort food & comfort food is, dare we say, the most important food group. Savory, warm, filling & familiar. For this year's Fall Features, we at Anna's House took classic comfort foods & added new twists, featuring wonderful local Michigan products.

Pumpkin Spice Pancakes

A top the deliciously golden Pumpkin Spice Pancakes is our new house made, gluten free graham cracker cream cheese frosting. The gluten free graham crackers are made by Celiac-owned Kind Crumbs in Grand Rapids. We are very proud to partner with them for dietary friendly sweet treats for the past several years.

This dish can be made gluten free. Please notify your server & we will present you with our gluten free Pumpkin Spice Pancakes!

Kimchi Reuben Burger

temp-post-image

You are going to be surprised by how many scrumptious, local ingredients we fit between this pretzel bun! This burger was inspired & created by two of our very own team members, Ben & Jackson in Kalamazoo! They had been experimenting with creative ideas & twists on our current menu items. Using Ben’s recipe for this incredible sauce & Jackson’s idea to combine the corned beef with Kimchi & Monterey Jack cheese, the two created a unique twist on a classic reuben. The sandwich was so delicious, our Menu Developer, Danea, asked Ben to PLEASE share his recipe, so we could feature the sauce & asked Jackson for permission to use the ingredient combo. Their creative ideas & team work inspired the Kimchi Reuben Burger!

Fair warning: Ben's Chili Sauce packs some heat!

This burger features double decker Michigan Craft Beef from Moraine Park Farms in Zeeland & melted with Monterey Jack cheese. Our house made, slow roasted corned beef is pressed between the patties for even more goodness, making it a total of 11 ounces of meat! Then it is topped with The Brinery Kimchi from Ann Arbor & of course, Ben's Chili Sauce. Trust us, this burger is worth all of the hard work we & all of our local partners put into it!

Served with your choice of side.

Chicken Tinga Tostadas

temp-post-image

Just like how we wear more layers in the fall, this dish layers up with flavors!

temp-post-image

We hand cut our fresh tomatoes & onions & add them with shredded chicken in chipotle in adobo sauce. Then we let it sit, simmer & make everyone's mouths water with the savory smell!

temp-post-image

We whip up our zesty house made cilantro-lime vinaigrette which is all made from scratch. Although making our dressings & sauces by hand is time consuming, we strive to make high quality, fresh products that we are proud to share with you!

When all of our sauces are perfectly blended & ready for action, we add our marinated shredded chicken on top of two house made corn tostadas. We scramble up some cage free eggs from Vande Bunte Farm in Martin, Michigan. All of this is topped with fresh avocado, black beans, diced radish & the cilantro-lime vinaigrette, making a warming, colorful mountain of freshness. Our Chicken Tinga Tostadas are light, but filling & are certified brunch-approved! Served with your side of choice.

Congratulations to Kim who was voted Team Member of the Month by her Beltline team in August! From coming in on her days off, to selling the second most Cystic Fibrosis Fundraiser pins in the entire company, Kim is always willing to go the extra mile! She's praised for her big heart, big smile & contagious laugh. Guests sometimes even confuse her as Anna from time to time! Kim explained that she loves working at Anna's House because of the team mentality. "It's not like any other place I've ever worked. It's really nice knowing everyone has your back." When Kim isn't serving, she says she dabbles in photography & loves reading. "I will read anything & everything. If you give me anything with words, I will read it!" Thank you for your sincere hard work & kind heart, Kim!

We at Anna's House pride ourselves on offering easily accessible dishes, whether you are gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian, vegan, or suffer from allergies. We take extra precaution and do whatever is necessary to fit your dietary needs and lifestyles. One of the biggest up and coming trends is veganism. For those who don't know, veganism is a lifestyle that omits products made from animals which includes milk, eggs and cheese. There are different versions of veganism and Anna's House is willing to cater to each specific diet.

Below are some of our most popular dishes that can be made vegan with a few modifications as well as some dishes that are naturally vegan. Be sure to always notify your server of your dietary needs!

temp-post-image

Our Sweet Potato Brussels Sprouts Hash has roasted sweet potatoes, brussels sprouts, onion and dried cherries, topped with balsamic reduction sauce. Normally it is served with two eggs, so be sure to request no eggs in order to make this dish vegan.

The Anna's Skillet is a very popular dish that can also be made vegan with a few changes. Request that your server remove eggs, cheese, ham and sour cream. You'll be given a deliciously warm skillet served with green pepper, onion, mushroom, potato, tomato and green onions. It is a perfectly hearty meal to keep you sustained for the rest of the day.

temp-post-image

Our Tempeh Power Bowl is seriously delicious. Featuring house made vegan tempeh bacon atop brown rice and steamed kale. Topped with fresh avocado, sweet dried cherries, and a tangy pomegranate drizzle. This dish is also served with two eggs, but can be made vegan if they are removed. You can almost feel the energy radiating from you once you finish eating this healthy power dish!

Another fantastic vegan-friendly dish is our notorious Hippie Hash. Slow roasted root vegetables, brown rice, fresh garlic, fresh ginger and alfalfa sprouts. When ordering, be sure to request that the kitchen not add cheese, sour cream or eggs. This dish is one of our most famous, as well as the most photogenic dish with all of its rich colors and textures! Be sure if you're enjoying the meal, to use the #myannashouse to showcase your vegan-friendly meal!

Our Tempeh Burger is 100% vegan naturally! This seasoned tempeh burger is served on a vegan bun with avocado, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles and BBQ sauce. Our Sweet Potato Fries are also vegan-friendly (and they pair especially well with this dish). The fries are served, however, with a side of brown sugar butter which is not vegan.

Woah, hang on a second. You might be thinking 'Tempeh? What is Tempeh?!' Tempeh is a delicious meat alternative made out of soy beans that originated in Indonesia. The soy beans are naturally cultured and fermented to create a binding solution that holds its 'cake-like' form! By offering BBQ sauce on the side, it also adds a flavor similar to that of meat!

Healthy Baked Oatmeal is one of the most popular and unique dishes offered on our breakfast menu. Baked breakfast oats, dried cherries, raisins, vanilla and a dash of cinnamon. This entree is topped with vanilla soy milk, but we also offer almond milk. Hint: This dish is massive and resembles a giant slice of cake!

Several of our salads can also be made vegan with modifications. Our vegan dressing options include Greek, Raspberry Vinaigrette and Pomegranate Blueberry Vinaigrette.

We also have several tasty "on the side" options that can accompany any vegan meal!

temp-post-image

Our Tempeh Bacon comes with four "slices" of vegan bacon.

Our more classic side options include Potatoes, Sweet Potato Fries and Fries which are all naturally vegan. We also offer oatmeal as another side option.

temp-post-image

Who could go wrong with a Cup of Fresh Fruit? Layered with cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple, strawberries and blueberries, it makes a perfect pair for any dish!

temp-post-image

Some of our specialty drinks can also be made vegan! Be sure they are ordered with vanilla soy milk or unsweetened almond milk and no whipped cream. You can enjoy a vegan Latte, Cappuccino, Chai Latte or Gourmet Hot Chocolate!

Our Fresh Fruit Smoothies are also vegan, featuring your choice of blueberry, strawberry and banana!

Be sure to check out our seasonal menu where we strive to offer a variety of foods that cater to specific diets and lifestyles! Also remember to always inform your waiter of your dietary restrictions in order to fully enjoy your meal!

Anna's House was founded on the belief that all dietary restrictions should be celebrated. Everyone should be able to enjoy a meal out with family or friends, even if everyone at the table has a different food preference or diet. Our goal is to offer more than one choice per diet and lifestyle, so everyone can enjoy the experience of trying something new each time they visit Anna's House!

If you found this article helpful, be sure to share it with fellow vegan friends or with friends or family who may be interested in trying something new!

Congratulations to Casey who was Plainfield's July Team Member of the Month! Casey has only been a part of Anna's House for a few months, showing his strengths in and around the kitchen. "He grabs on to his job with great enthusiasm," Karen, Plainfield's General Manager praised. "He's a little go-getter!" Casey explained that he enjoys the fast-paced atmosphere of Plainfield. Considering how small our first location is, he says that he moves around quite a lot between washing dishes and prepping food. His coworkers and management praise his punctuality, politeness, and his eagerness to learn new things. "He never grumbles when asked to do anything," Karen admired when asked what makes Casey such an outstanding team member.

Congratulations Casey, and thank you for your eagerness to work hard and stay positive!

On Tuesday, all of our Anna's House locations celebrated their newest store in Holland by hosting radio stations, handing out balloons, and donating 10% of their proceeds for the whole day to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Thank you to all of the wonderful community members who support us and made this day a huge success!

We know that a lot of people are probably thinking, "Wait a second, you opened in March though..." So why are we celebrating this late!? Well, we are celebrating for a number of reasons! Our largest reason is to be able to have a large turn out for our CF fundraiser that helps doctors and researchers get that much closer to finding a cure. Finding a cure means helping families who have been struggling with an incurable...

Introducing Sweet Beet, a blend of beets, carrots, celery, and lemon.

What can't beets do? These hearty veggies have an amazing antioxidant in them called betaine which prevents and fights cancer. That's a pretty big deal! Beets also detoxify the liver, help clear the digestive system, combat high blood pressure, lower levels of bad cholesterol, help neutralize toxins, protect your eyes, skin, kidneys, and liver. Phew, that was a lot! That's not all though. Beets can fight development of birth defects in pregnancy, help circulate blood flow, and they have a lot of good stuff like potassium, folate, vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants. Still skeptical on the power of beets? Didn't think so.

Carrots! We all know carrots help with your eye sight and bunnies like 'em. But carrots should be known for way more than just that. Carrots are high in vitamin A which is good for eyesight, a healthy brain, cells, and lungs. They also have a high amount of antioxidants which boost immune systems, preventing you from getting sick, while protecting your skin and eyes. Antioxidants also fight free radicals, cancer, and heart disease. You can find vitamins A, C, D, E, K, magnesium, potassium, calcium, and carotenoids which fight illness and chronic diseases, and decrease risk of heart disease and stroke. Carrots also protect against and fight cancer, prevent cavities and tooth decay, fight inflammation, and heal wounds. They also help your brain's function and memory! Now that that's all covered, carrots are highly underrated, don't you think?

So you're probably starting to believe the power of juicing, but just in case you need more to get you into our Grandville store, here's the scoop on celery! Celery has a long list of vitamins (A, B1, B2, B6, and C), potassium, folate, calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, safe and organic sodium, and amino acids. They help lower blood pressure, combat cancer, balance body pH, lower bad cholesterol, keep your body cool, aid digestion, eliminate toxins, prevent inflammation, help weight loss, and calms nerves. Celery is perfect for a summer cool down, but also for helping you shake that summer sickness that seems to be spreading.

You probably see lemons everywhere, but never realized how great they are for you! If you get past the bittersweet lip puckering, then you can absorb all of the goodness they have to offer. Lemons give you a huge amount of vitamin C, antioxidants, free radicals that fight cancer, and they boost the immune system.

The swirling combination of all of these fruits and vegetables creates a powerfully nutritious elixir that can help your body from the inside out.

temp-post-image

During these extremely humid days when it feels impossible to feel energized, this juice is for you! Our Snappy Apple Carrot is perfect for a zesty wake-me-up. A little tangy pop can spark the lethargy right out of you! It features only three ingredients which blend perfectly in harmony: apples, carrots, and ginger.

Who said you necessarily had to eat an apple a day? Just drink one to keep the doctor away! Apples are high in fiber and antioxidants which prevent inflammation, fight cancer and heart disease, lower risk of heart attack, and aid digestion.

Ginger also aids digestion, overall health and immunity, fights colds, cancer, and inflammation. It also can help prevent nausea from occurring. Ginger also helps circulation with their abundance of antioxidants. Plus, there's nothing better than that prickly sweet taste of ginger to wake up your senses.

Do not let the simplicity of this drink fool you! It is jam packed with vitamins and nutrients that your body really wants in order to feel the best it can! Also, don't forget you can refresh your memory on the power of carrots above.

So what makes juicing the best way to absorb these delicious fruits and veggies? Why not just eat them? Well, with a cold-pressed machine, the whole produce is used so you get every last drop. The fruit and vegetables are crushed and pressed to release their juices instead of being cut and spun to extract the juice. This process gets more juice from the produce as well as a higher amount of nutrients and doesn't heat the juice up. We add ice cubes to the juice to make it taste refreshing, but also because if juice is heated, it doesn't retain as many nutrients!

With these two juices, now you can enjoy a guilt free drink on the side of your favorite Anna's House dish. These will be featured only at our Grandville location, so be sure to visit us to try our newest product! We want to know your thoughts about our newest addition, so be sure to fill out our feedback form before you leave our store!

Congratulations to Autie who was voted Team Member of the Month for Holland! Autie began working for Anna's House when our Grandville restaurant first opened! She stepped up to help train every new team member before Holland opened its doors.

Jacob, Holland's Assistant Manager said that whenever the team is in a bind, they can count on Autie. When she's asked for help on days off, Jacob explains, "She comes in. Every time. Guaranteed." Autie can fulfill almost every job at Anna's House which makes her a very valuable part of the team! She works as a senior server, floor manager, host, and busser. Impressive, huh? Well, she also works in the kitchen, helping with our panini station, toast, and she expos food before they reach the guest. Oh and she also washes dishes on occasion. Yeah, she's pretty amazing! Jacob praised that she has phenomenal leadership skills, as well as being multi-talented in all aspects of the store. She's always able and willing to help anyone without an ounce of negativity. "She never complains once," Jacob explained. When asked what her favorite part about working at Anna's House is, Autie said, "I like the environment. I love all of my coworkers." Out of all of the different jobs and tasks she performs on a weekly basis, she says her favorites are serving and floor managing. Which, of course, she does very well.

Our District Manager, Melissa, gave nothing but compliments when asked about Autie's work ethic, "She is one of the most valuable employees on our whole team. She is exactly what we're looking for in all of our employees AND she's the youngest manager on the floor. And I really hope she inspires other team members to represent us like she does."

Congratulations Autie and thank you for your dedication, drive, and for going above and beyond! You are truly appreciated!

Congratulations to Abel who was voted May's Grandville Team Member of the Month! Abel began working as a line cook last September and has proved to be a very hard worker. Christina, Grandville's General Manager, explained that he does a little of everything in the kitchen. "He will do anything asked with a smile on his face. No hesitation." Abel has also been incredibly helpful with our corporate team. When our Menu Developer, Danea, comes in to test new products and recipes, he is always willing to help where he can. He leads the way, showing tips and tricks around the kitchen and gives his thoughtful opinions on dishes. Cooks not only have to create delicious dishes, they also have to create them quickly. Abel has shared information that will help make dishes taste better, but also get to the guests' table faster! Other Grandville team members, including servers, hosts, and other line cooks love working with him. When asked what his favorite part of working at Anna's House is, Abel responded quickly with a chuckle, "The people." It looks as though the people like you too, Abel!

Congratulations and thank you for always lending a helping hand and caring smile!

Congratulations to Stephanie who was voted Beltline's Team Member of the Month! Stephanie started working at Anna's House last June. When asked about her work in the kitchen, she laughed and said, "It's hot!" Her quick humor and bubbly personality are just a few of her great qualities. Stephanie stays busy in the kitchen making paninis, sandwiches, and wraps; her all time favorite dish to help with is the Twilight French Toast. "She always comes in early and ready," Kiaira, Beltline's Assistant Manager, explained when asked what makes Stephanie a valuable employee. "She always has the initiative to help out other stores. And a great attitude." Kiaira also added that Stephanie winning this award is very well deserved. After our interview, other Beltline team members thought it was well deserved too and Stephanie was greeted with high-fives and an abundance of praise.

"I like everything about the restaurant. I like learning everything about the restaurant too," Stephanie explained when asked what her favorite part of her job is. She is dedicated to doing her best every single day and taking the initiative to do better every day. Congratulations Stephanie and thank you for all of your hard work!

Congratulations to James who won Team Member of the Month at our Plainfield store! James started working as a prep cook last November after recovering from a broken pelvis that kept him from being the busy "all hands man" that he describes himself as. He helps out around the kitchen wherever he can, whether it's on the cook line or in the dish tank. "He keeps up team morale!" Karen and Jane, Plainfield's General Managers praised. "Regulars know him. He comes out and greets everyone happily in the morning." Even a few servers weighed in on James' welcoming attitude, saying that he's easy to compliment people when they do a great job. They also said that James is always polite and respectful towards everyone.

When asked what his favorite job to do is, James laughed and said, " I love the prep actually! I enjoy working in restaurants." Part of the reason, he explained, is that a good kitchen is like family.

Congratulations James and thank you for being a kind and valuable part of our Anna's House family!
